Blog 1: Interview Option 1

The health issues I am most concerned about is obesity and Cancer. Obesity is a huge epidemic in America and more than half of my family is affected by it. Cancer is being seen more and more every day and my step uncle got it and died and now my aunt has breast cancer. It directly impacts my family.

I sent out multiple requests for this interview and I picked the 3 responses to encompass as broad a range as possible for this survey interview.

The first one we have is Sheila Roman; she is in her fifties, and also a mother and wife from California. She is of Native American decent. Her top health concerns are Heart health, diabetes, and woman’s cancers because these are health problems that run in her family.

The second woman chosen for this survey was Jenni Martinez. She is a 30 year old Hispanic woman working on her Doctorate degree in San Antonio. Her top health concern is Cancer. She says, “It has no cure and is an almost silent killer.”

Last but certainly not least is Cara Dawson who is a woman in her forties of Caucasian decent and a mother of 2. When asked what her top health concern was, she responded with, “Cancer, Heart Disease, and Obesity.” She feels that there is a direct correlation between cancer and processed foods. These health issues are killing her loved ones and destroying the health of many Americans.

After looking at my health concerns and the concerns of the other women that I interviewed, it seems as though we all have a lot in common although we mostly come from different backgrounds. We have deep concern about the health risks affecting our country and families.

  1. Brandie,

Obesity runs in my family too. It is something that many of my family members struggle with. It is interesting that you and the women you interviewed share the same views on health issues. I enjoyed reading your blog!

  2. Hello Brandie,
I feel like this is a great representation of many people’s concerns. My family and friends have many of these concerns because we are battling them now. I have a friend that is thirty and has been in remission for a couple years after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer and my father has lost 75 pounds making it possible to shop at regular stores now. :)

  3. A healthy diet is really hard to have when there are so many unhealthy foods that cost way less. It appears that each fast food restaurant contains a menu that has value meals for you to purchase at a buck per item. Parents are very transit so therefore, they don’t always have time to cook. Consequently we rely on eating at fast food restaurants that provide little to no nourishment for our bodies. With hundreds maybe even millions having to grab and eat on the go, how is it possible to make changes that can prevent obesity and/or other health complications from arising?

  4. Hello Brandie,

Cancer seem to be among the top in health issues today.Am sorry about the loss of your uncle. You see,i lost a very special aunt about 4years ago to cancer. I encourage every woman over age 40 to constantly go for a mammogram.

  5. Hello Brandie,
It was interesting to read your blog. I agree that obesity is a huge epidemic in America. It is already a big health problem and will continue to increase every year. Obesity runs in my family also and many of them struggle to try to lose weight. However, they still continue to eat a lot of junk food. Obesity comes with many health risks and people should start eating health in order to prevent this health concern.
